For most things in life, the answer to that question is a resounding NO!
Yet many women act as if the answer is yes. The list of things women avoid doing for fear of being “too big to” includes:
- Going swimming/wearing a bathing
- Dancing
- Dating
- Getting Married
- Trying a new sport or other physical activity
One of my own greatest “I’m too big to” activties was surfing. Surfers always looked so graceful to me and I envied their ability to become one with a wave and ride it all the way to shore. I promised myself that I would take a lesson “someday,” but always put it off for fear I was too heavy.
This year, my husband signed us both up for lessons for my birthday.
I immediately felt excitement coupled with fear. I also admit to googling the phrase “is there a weight limit for surfing?” which led me to this picture on FYSURF.com
I wasn’t nearly as good as this guy, but I was absolutely able to make it through a 1hr beginner lesson. All those years of thinking I was “too big to” proved wrong.
Food for thought: Have you ever avoided doing something because you feared you were “too big to”? What was it?
